A fresh new sound from this veteran Canadian songwriter!
James Gordon’s latest album on Borealis, The Heritage Hall Sessions is a sonic departure from his previous work. He gathered five of his favourite musical collaborators, rented a beautiful old former church in his hometown of Guelph, Ontario, put those great musicians in a circle and spent just three days arranging and performing the songs ‘live off the floor.’ A live audience joined them on the final night.
Multi-instrumentalists Jeff Bird (from the Cowboy Junkies) and Ian Bell were joined by Anne Lindsay (from the Jim Cuddy Band) on fiddle. Singer-songwriter and neighbour Katherine Wheatley did almost all the guitar work and harmony vocals and Tannis Slimmon added the cream on top of those harmonies.
Produced by James’ son Evan Gordon, these 12 new original songs will be a familiar combination to fans: a mixture of politically charged works with personal and poetic reflections.
“…a remarkable Canadian performer. His body of work is truly original.” –Penguin Eggs
